Thank you for supporting the Second Floor Expansion of the Castlegar & District Hospital Auxiliary Society Treasure Shop!

Our Aviva Community Fund Idea

The Castlegar & District Hospital Auxiliary Society operates HATS (thrift shop). We built the first phase of the building in 2006 and since then, we have outgrown the floor space of 3200 square feet.

We are supported by the community as they donate good used items of clothing, hardware, books, shoes, many other items. Buy doing this service for the community we provide available affordable clothing and other items for those that need assistance. We have many shoppers from the surrounding areas that come to shop and by doing so, support our efforts in fund raising.

This makes it possible to donate money to health care especially to the Castlegar & District Community Health Centre. We also support the 60 residents of Talarico Place by purchasing the needed items for patient comfort and care. We provide bursaries and scholarships to those students entering into the medical field.

The expansion of the second floor began October 8th 2013. By having the second floor we would also be able to accept good used furniture which would provide an additional service to the customers. The second floor would provide the volunteers more space to sort, price, store and work in. The HATS has become a social network of retired volunteers that have the ability to feel useful after they retire which enables them to give back to the community.

This is a community initiative and embraces persons from all walks of life. We call it our Treasure Shop and it provides a purpose for all those that participate in this worthwhile endeavor.
