The Interior Health Authority opened its two renovated palliative rooms at Talarico place last week.

The rooms were renovated by the Castlegar and District Hospital Foundation through the Light-up the Hospital Campaign and help from The Brick and Oglow’s.

The foundation raised more than $8,000 to upgrade and make the two palliative rooms more “homey.”

“The foundation did a great job in raising funds and bringing awareness,” said Spencer Buckland, IHA health service administrator for Castlegar.

He added the work on the rooms could not have been done without the in-kind donations of The Brick, which donated decorations for the room as well as a plasma flat-screen television set for one of the rooms, and Oglow’s, who supported the project by providing paint products and new blinds for the two renovated rooms.

“We’re very grateful for their (the businesses) support and we’re very grateful for the support we received from the community,” Buckland said.

Family Room

The renovated rooms are outfitted with a love seat for family members, a portable phone set and a DVD player.

Linda Williams, residential care leader at Talarico Place, said the rooms will be used by people from the community to make their last days more comfortable.

IHA would like to thank the Castlegar and District Hospital Foundation, The Brick and Oglow’s.
